Working in a dreary old factory in
Manchester as a welder was the only life I knew until I took an interest in diving and joined the B.S.A.C
my membership No. 134021/690, date 14,10,74
After a while this led me into the world of commercial
diving.
My book tells of the journey into life as a commercial diver.
This occupation is often divided between periods of hard work, bouts of inactivity, and often living
in uncomfortable surroundings. The work involves diving day or night,
and no employer pays a diver just for that, he would need another skill.
I made my first commercial dive in 1976 (I was 23)
for North Sea Diving Services after being interviewed over the phone. I was apprehensive when I left home after being told
that my job was going to be rather dangerous, and I would be expected to work any time day and night in pitch black water.
After a few months the company asked me to go out to West Africa (Nigeria). I didn’t even know where Nigeria was and believe it or not I had only flown once before!!! This is a true
story of my life as a diver with the friends I had, the dangers, and the amusing times that we had during my 20 years
of commercial diving. It's a good story which I hope you will enjoy.
