Diving in a Swindell helmet was like  having your head inside a washing machine , there’s always water on the inside, and  air coming into the helmet made that much noise  you would have to turn it  off  so you could use the communication system to the surface.

The Swindell  didn’t have any bail out system (safety system) .If the compressor on the surface failed there could be time to surface safely on the compressors air bank. ( known as  PIG’s ) .

In the event of anything else going wrong you had a big problem.

The communication  system  inside the helmet  had two little speakers that had to be kept dry by keeping them in a couple of durex !!!
