Lifeboat training was a must for the crew. All the inflatable boats that had to be replaced on the rigs we would keep for the crews training.

After the boats had been inflated the crew would dive in to get the survival equipment, the fishing lines, water and the concentrated biscuits which could keep three or four people alive for days at sea. They would eat a whole packet in the afternoon and end up with pains in their stomach in the evening!!!  I did warn them always

The benches actually collapsed under the weight of the Bo’sun, the  mooring master, and yes…. myself.

I had a nasty accident when  a  balcony I was working on collapsed. I hit the ground pretty hard and gained a lot of bruises not to mention a few broken  bones.
